Patrik’s Trainee Year at Kalliolaw – Initiative, Responsibility, and Team Spirit
Patrik spent about a year as a junior trainee at Kalliolaw, and the experience has been not only educational but also unforgettable. One of the most memorable moments came during his very first week, when the entire office went on a summer trip to Brussels. The trip was a great opportunity to get to know colleagues not just from the Helsinki office, but also from the teams in Turku and London – and it laid a relaxed foundation for the work ahead.
Over the past year, Patrik has gained valuable insight into the importance of taking initiative. He encourages future trainees to step up, take responsibility, and dive into tasks with confidence. At Kalliolaw’s agile organization, your personal interests aren’t lost in bureaucracy. This has allowed him to take on diverse assignments and gain exposure to a wide range of legal fields.
One particularly positive surprise for Patrik was how quickly he got involved in real legal cases. He has worked steadily on various legal research and translation tasks across different practices, offering him a broad view of life at a law firm. The work culture, in turn, has proven to be non-hierarchical, supportive, and encouraging: help is always available, and no question is too small – even partners are approachable.
If a movie were made about Patrik’s trainee experience, its title would fittingly be Raiders of the Lost Email – a light-hearted nod to the everyday reality where even tracking down important emails is part of a lawyer’s work. His advice to future trainees is to stay curious, enjoy the experience, and keep a relaxed mindset about the job:
“Make the most of your traineeship! Be curious and open to learning new things. Don’t stress too much – everything will work out. And don’t forget to take a breather and enjoy the ride.”
Patrik’s year at Kalliolaw has been filled with learning, responsibility, and a strong sense of community – an experience he’ll carry with him for a long time to come.
